Anxiety is something many of us face, but how we perceive it can significantly impact how we manage it. Through my personal journey with my middle son, I’ve learned the transformative power of reframing anxiety—viewing it as something external rather than a part of who we are. This shift in perspective can create space, allowing us to approach anxiety with a sense of calm and control.
When we say “my anxiety,” we internalize it, making it a permanent part of our identity. But by simply calling it “the anxiety,” we create distance, viewing it as a passing cloud or storm—temporary and external. This subtle change in language can have a profound effect on how we cope with fear.
One of the most powerful lessons came from my son’s experience with stage fright. During a school concert, despite overwhelming fear, he found the courage to continue, supported by his teacher, classmates, and the audience. This year, we tackled his anxiety in a new way: by visualizing and smashing the “old CD” of fearful thoughts, replacing it with affirmations of confidence and strength.
Through this process, we discovered that true empowerment comes from within. Anxiety may come and go, but our inner strength remains constant. By shifting how we think about anxiety, we can navigate life with grace and resilience.

Our Love Story
This was 2010. I had just gone through a HUGE transformation year the year before. I had finally admitted my unhealthy relationship with alcohol. I would have a bottle of wine in the house and need to finish it. I would try to have one glass but keep thinking about the second. Looking back I was numbing with alcohol from pain, trauma and my intuitive gifts. But I hit rock bottom and decided to quit alcohol and choose the life I wanted to live. If I wanted to have a husband and three kids (I have always wanted three) then I knew I needed to start changing my habits now.

4 Ways Healthy Boundaries Set You Free
Healthy boundaries are essential for living a fulfilling and authentic life. But what if we have never been taught them? How many women can relate that as a little girl they were told to do or say things that made them feel uncomfortable because it would make other people happy? Give a hug or a kiss or go to a neighbours house. We were to be seen but not heard. Also, not to show too much emotion because it made other people uncomfortable. We have no idea how to take up space in this world or set boundaries in friendships, relationships romance or work. Boundaries are the physical, emotional, and mental limits that we set for ourselves and others, and they play a crucial role in our overall well-being.
Communication & Long Distance Relationships
When I was pregnant with our third child, our daughter, Chris was deployed when I was 10 weeks pregnant. He then returned when I was 37 weeks pregnant. I remember near the end of their deployment they were in New Zealand and there had been an Earthquake that they needed to stay to help with disaster relief. I remember Chris telling me and my rational brain completely understood. He told me that everyone knew he had to get home as soon as he could because we were expecting our baby and he would do everything to be there but was scared with this new mission that they had to do. I got off the phone and remember ugly crying my whole way to work. He ended up coming home when he was expected to and a few short weeks later, our daughter was born.
Self Regulation…What about you?
I remember during the kicking and screaming it would last sometimes an hour or two. I was pregnant with my second child with a husband away and living with my parents hoping for extra support but it just caused more tension. You can’t reason with a two year old. You try to talk about feelings and how they are feeling and I tried many times but they are all big emotions and very reactive. I would go online and hope for answers but I would read articles about how I needed to support my child and hold him and be there for him. When you have been kicked, yelled at, spit at and told you are a terrible mom for two hours…. you need a fucking break. I started putting him in his room and letting him kick and throw things in there. I made sure it was safe and I walked away and started to self regulate myself so I could go back in with a calm mind and body and help him.
External Validation
I saw how when partners didn’t deliver, the world came crashing down. I started to realize how damaging this external validation was. We have been taught by marketing that in order for you to feel loved and valued on valentines day, that material items need to be given. All of the dishes in the sink need to be done, the BIG love gestures need to be given because when they are not.. we are not loved and we aren’t valued.
