How do I start connecting to my intuition?

Do you ever feel like you're not quite sure what direction to take in life? Or maybe you have anxiety and making a decision triggers the anxiety and you're not sure which choice to make. These are situations where having a strong connection with your intuition can be incredibly valuable. Your intuition is your inner guide that can help you make decisions that align with your highest good.

I often will get asked by clients who want to learn how to connect with their intuition and don’t know where to begin.

Here are some ways to connect with your intuition:

Practice mindfulness: One of the most important things you can do to connect with your intuition is to quiet your mind. Mindfulness meditation is a great way to do this. Try setting aside some time each day to sit in silence and focus on your breath. Easier said than done but when you think of mindfulness and meditation you might be thinking of buddhist monks sitting for hours and hours and get overwhelmed and forget to meditate…or is it just me? Try Insight Timer! It’s a great app (and I am a teacher on it, come follow me) and you can say you want a 5 minute guided meditation and BINGO! Meditation complete. Don’t worry if your mind races, I often start doing my grocery list as I sit down to meditate but just continue to remind myself to focus on my breath. It’s a game of redirecting.

Pay attention to your body: Your body often gives you signals when something is not right. For example, you might feel a tightness in your chest when you're in a situation that's not in alignment with your values. Pay attention to these physical sensations and use them as clues to help guide you. You might even start to notice if a place, a person or a conversation makes your body feel different! Pay attention to WHERE your feeling tightness, pain, discomfort. These can be awesome signs about which chakra it is affecting. Don’t be afraid to sit for a second and put your hands on your chest and take three big breaths to reconnect with your body.

Journal: Writing down your thoughts and feelings can help you gain clarity and connect with your intuition. Try journaling first thing in the morning or before bed, and see what insights come up. The 5 minute gratitude journal is a fantastic tool that gives you some prompts and helps get you out of your head. If you are like me and not big on journaling, don’t be afraid to voice note yourself. Get all of your thoughts on a voice note recording app on your phone and have yourself come back to it later. There is something special about listening to your own voice and the shifts that can happen when hearing it out loud.

Spend time in nature: Being in nature can be incredibly grounding and help you connect with your inner wisdom. Take a walk in the woods, go for a swim in the ocean, or simply sit outside and breathe in the fresh air. Gaia, mother earth helps ground us! Even going bare foot in some grass, especially when you are travelling and in a different time zone can help us get used to the energy of the new location. A great example of this is shown in Down to Earth with Zach Efron on Netflix. Or with my grounding meditation.

Use divination tools: Tarot cards, oracle cards (my favourite), and pendulums can all be helpful tools for connecting with your intuition. These tools can help you tap into your subconscious mind and access your inner guidance. I love asking my guides for clarification on something and pulling a card from my oracle deck. We do this every Wednesday in the Love and Light Collective Facebook group. Join us here.

Trust yourself: Ultimately, the most important thing you can do to connect with your intuition is to trust yourself. Trust that you have all the answers you need within you, and that you can make the best decisions for yourself. Takeaway Connecting with your intuition can help you make decisions that align with your highest good.

By practicing mindfulness, paying attention to your body, journaling, spending time in nature, using divination tools, and trusting yourself, you can strengthen your intuition and live a more fulfilling life. Doing all of these have helped me break free from anxiety that would have debilitated me in the past. Being able to ask the oracle cards for guidance calms the anxiety in ways I could have never imagined. I do believe it is that trust and surrender to what is meant for our highest and greatest good.
